Licensed in 1958 as
KN4TAX, Bob McGraw officially started
his career in “ham” radio in Martin, TN.
After finishing high school, he attended UT Martin while working
at the
local AM station. In 1965 he moved to
the engineering group of a TV-FM-AM broadcast facility in Nashville. Later, he worked 13 years for CBS Records
in the engineering group and then retired after 15 years with Sony
Electronics
in Ft. Lauderdale & Boca Raton, FL.
His interests have
always been related to RF and audio with many
successful VHF/UHF tropo and EME contacts.
Presently he consults and installs church sound systems.
Holding an Extra
Class license, K4TAX resides
some 6 miles east of Sparta TN on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau
and is
active on most HF bands. The K4TAX QTH
is some 500 ft above average terrain with a base elevation of 1850
Ft/MSL on
Bon Aire Mountain. He maintains 3
repeaters and a remote base system covering 5 VHF/UHF bands. He has had several articles published on “EME
Basics”, “Station Grounding” and “Lightning Protection”.
He has served as a guest speaker at several
ham club meetings and conferences.
